BIOLOGICAL WOUND HEALING WITH GROWTH FACTORS FROM YOUR OWN BLOOD PLASMA (PRGF®)
PRGF® stands for “Plasma Rich in Growth Factors”: blood plasma rich in growth factors. These growth factors play a very important role in wound healing. The procedure has been used successfully in medicine in Germany for over 15 years. In our dental practice we make use of their healing properties. GROWTH FACTORS FROM YOUR OWN BLOOD
Blood consists of approximately 50-70% plasma. The plasma contains, among other things, certain substances that are responsible for wound healing, the so-called growth factors. Together they form a complex system that is activated immediately in the event of an injury and ensures the fastest possible regeneration. With this healing power, the body protects itself very effectively.
PRGF® USES SELF-HEALING POWERS
In modern dentistry, more and more extensive surgical procedures are being carried out. This creates wounds that the body has to deal with – pain and swelling accompany this process. The unpleasant after-effects of the treatment can sometimes last for some time.
The PRGF® technology offers a solution for this: it enables the growth factors to also be used in dentistry. A big advantage, especially for implant operations! To do this, we have to isolate and concentrate the growth factors from the patient’s blood.
This method of promoting wound healing using factors from your own blood is not only 100% organic, but also free of animal substitutes!
HOW DOES THE TREATMENT WORK?
First, we will take a small amount of blood from you (1). In a centrifuge (2) the blood cells are separated from the blood plasma. Only the plasma (3) contains the healing-promoting factors called blood platelets (thrombocytes).
The plasma obtained (4) is introduced in concentrated form (5) into the treatment area, i.e. the wound, during an operation (e.g. implantation (6)). From this moment on, the concentrated growth factors take effect: the healing process is started very effectively.
Many complicated biochemical processes take place at the cellular level that would take much longer without such support. The effect: You feel significantly less wound pain, the swelling is less, and healing occurs much faster.
