PREVENTING PERIODONTITIS EFFECTIVELY

Periodontitis is the inflammation of the tissues that support the teeth. It is a widespread disease: In Germany, around three-quarters of people over the age of 40 are affected. We tackle periodontitis using modern methods to preserve the teeth and prevent adverse health effects.

Periodontology: our services at a glance

Periodontitis prophylaxis – for effective prevention or early detection of inflammation

Multi-stage treatment concept – for systematic and effective periodontal therapy

Bacterial analysis – the basis for a targeted fight against inflammation-causing bacteria

Periodontal surgery – minimally invasive removal of diseased tissue and hard plaque

Systematic aftercare – to maintain the success of the therapy for as long as possible (Supportive Periodontal Therapy, SPT)

FIRST SIGNS: GINGIVITIS

Periodontitis usually develops because of an untreated inflammation of the gums (gingivitis). The visible symptoms include reddened gums, bleeding gums and receding gums.

Periodontitis occurs when plaque, tartar and bacteria penetrate below the edge of the gum. This “undercuts” the gum and leads to the formation of deep periodontal pockets. This enables the inflammation to spread to the tissue that supports the teeth, the periodontium.

RISK OF TOOTH LOSS

If this is left untreated, there is a risk of serious damage to the teeth. The periodontal pockets become deeper, and dead cells, bacteria, blood and food residue can gather there, forming a deposit of “subgingival tartar” on the roots of the teeth.

This creates a highly toxic environment with particularly aggressive germs. These infect the jawbone and destroy it. If this happens, the roots of the teeth will lose their supporting structures. The teeth become loose and will eventually fall out.

OUR TREATMENT

There are a few things we can do to prevent this. Periodontitis treatment is no longer as terrifying as it used to be. The earlier it is treated, the better the chances that it will heal.

Gentle and effective …

We initially test the oral flora for particular bacteria using modern laboratory diagnostics. Thanks to precise analysis, we can treat periodontitis in a gentle and targeted manner.

During pretreatment following this test, we will thoroughly remove the deposits from the periodontal pockets and smooth the surface of the roots using special instruments.

… to provide successful healing in the long term

During subsequent appointments, we will carry out intensive professional teeth cleaning (PTC) in order to reduce the number of germs even further.

Depending on your needs, we may also use chlorhexidine chips, which are inserted directly into the affected region. This active ingredient effectively kills off the bacteria – without the use of antibiotics!

GETTING THERE TOGETHER

We want to make sure that your periodontium stays healthy in the long term. This requires close cooperation and a spirit of trust. This is why we should agree on future appointments right from the start and of course we would be happy to add you to our recall system.

Did you know …

… that periodontitis affects not only the teeth but also the whole body? The ongoing inflammation puts pressure on the immune system, making the body more susceptible to illness. At the same time, bacteria can also access the internal organs through the bloodstream.

Several medical studies have also demonstrated that periodontitis is closely correlated with rheumatism, diabetes and heart disease – and important reason to get it treated in good time!

PERIODONTOLOGY

We treat inflammation of the periodontium (periodontitis), which affects around 75% of people over 40 in Germany. These usually result from untreated inflammation of the gums (gingivitis).

Since pathogenic germs are already widespread on the periodontium in periodontitis, only systematic periodontal therapy can help. The most effective remedy therefore remains periodontitis prophylaxis! The current state of the bacterial extent is determined at the microbiological level in order to enable timely intervention.

If you already have periodontitis, you may be at risk of losing your teeth. For this purpose, we offer a comprehensive, multi-stage treatment concept consisting of systematic therapy, minimal surgical measures and systematic aftercare (UPT).
